Political solutions
November 25th, 2006In a recent thread on Slashdot, wholly unrelated to politics, I saw the following comment:
I know that probably sounds rational to you, but a real solution always involves words like “burn”, “hang”, “topple”, “rise up against”, and “rebel group”.
I did not see any of those in your idea. I saw the word “smoke” which got me all worked up for a minute, but then it turned out you were still being logical.
I chuckled and then realized it perfectly describes my attitude about the current state of politics around these parts and the naive hopes that we’re not down to the last box in the “Influencing Societal Change” handbook.
The tree of liberty died from a lack of proper care long ago. I don’t mean to sound so doom and gloom. I’m long past depressed about it. I’m firing up the grill and popping popcorn. This is all great spectacle to me now.

I actually told someone today that it looks like people will have to be “whacked” for things to change! Thats a startling thing to say for someone who abhors violence but when it looks like the crazies are running the asylum it makes you sit up and take notice.
