High education

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Recently, I’ve seen the question asked many times. It goes something like this: “I’m completely on board with home education, but what about college?”

What about it? It’s an extension of the same mess as government schools. Home education doesn’t rule it out, but it’s rarely worthwhile anyway. I can’t tell you how many degreed idiots I know. (Look around here. Many of these jokers have degrees.)

I’ve never set foot in a college classroom. Perhaps it shows. If so, I’m happy about that. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished without playing that game. I’m also in good company. Tally up the college degrees among the founders in the Fortune 500.

If you would like to be a doctor or an engineer, college will probably benefit you. Otherwise, it’s a waste of time and money. The people teaching there are mostly doing that because they are incapable of making a living any other way. It’s a swamp of stupidity and ineptitude.

I hope to spare my daughters from it entirely. A real father raises children that have a work ethic but never have to work.

By the time my daughters are ready for college, I’ll be able to pay for it, and still won’t. It’s silly and mostly unproductive.

Is it the uniform?

I just heard a military guy on the ground in Iraq, reporting live on TV say, “I can’t even talk about what I’m about to say.” About two seconds later he said, “They won’t tell us anything until we know something.”

I’ll be holding my breath. When you know something call me and ask for “Blue Boy.”

Which one’s the whore again?

Jessica Simpson snubs the president

“It’s never been a problem for Bono,” he said, referring to the U2 rock star who has met regularly with political leaders of all stripes to promote various causes, including Third World debt relief. “I find it hard to believe she would pass up an opportunity to lobby the president on behalf of Operation Smile.”

Forti said the Republican group had even arranged for Simpson to dine at one of the head tables with U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader John Boehner, an Ohio Republican. The NRCC hopes the $2,500-per-plate dinner event will raise $7.5 million for Republican candidates in the congressional midterm elections in November.

I wonder who issued the press release? I’m guessing it wasn’t Jessica’s people.

What’s with this hand basket and where are we going? Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Taxing the stupid

This is an actual “project” posted at guru.com (copy and paste so…. multiple ‘sics’”):

I need a software program that analyzes the Florida Lottery. Specifically, I want a month-by-month number evaluation. I want a frequency evaluation, I want a number combination frequency i.e., if number 12 and 31 apprear together, what other number has appreard more often in combination with these two, etc, three number combination and so on. I want the know the number of spaces between number 3 and 4, i.e, 3 spaces apart, 4 spcaes, whatever; the spacing may vary each week, each month; I need to know this. I want to know how often number 5 is even or odd in any combination set. I want to know what is the frequency for number 6, how many time has number 6 been number X or number Y etc. I want this software program to “mind for nuggets” not revealed to the average lottery player. Base an a complete anaylsis of the Florida Lottery by month history, this software package should easily select 3 or 4 correct number for any given weekly game. I want it to recommend 6 number combination set after analysis. I want it to be able to have latest lottery numbers added to its data base.
I want this software to provide knowledge that enable me to play the game successfully. You can download the Florida Lottery History by going to their web page.

I wonder why I don’t get any work at guru? I wonder why I haven’t hit the lottery yet?

This is but one example and it does specifically reference Florida. If you skimmed it, go back and read. It’s good.

I especially liked the “mind for nuggets” part. “I think I found your mind! Oh, wait. That’s just a popcorn kernel.”

But that’s a toss up. I also liked “I want this software to provide knowledge that enable me to play the game successfully.”

I’m very tempted to make a proposal. I wonder how that would apprear?

How can you be old enough and rich enough to retire to Florida and still not get it? It’s rife with opportunity. But I’m an honest man.

Hmmm.

You see it all around you.
Good lovin’ gone bad.
And usually it’s too late when,
You realize what you had.

And my mind goes back,
To a girl I left some years ago.
Who told me,

“Just hold on loosely, but don’t let go
If you cling too tightly,
You’re gonna lose control.
Your baby needs someone to believe in
And a whole lot of space to breathe in.”

Back in the days where I should’ve lived, these were romance issues. They still are to me. But it seems nowadays they’re too often custody issues that involve much more than the parents.

It’s damn sad.
