Hush, hush. Keep it down, down…

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

I was just out on my back deck enjoying the beautiful north Texas weather right after dark. The stars are indeed nice tonight.

I could clearly overhear a conversation, that I joined in progress, coming from the neighbor’s back porch:

Guy 1: “Dude, that’s gotta be it. Look how much brighter it is than all the other stars.”
Guy 2: “I’m telling you that’s not it.
Guy 3: “The North star is in the north, right? Is that north?”
Guy 2: “No! That’s why I’m saying that can’t be it.”
Guy 1: “That is too north.”
Guy 2: “No it’s not! Is it?”
Guy 1: “Then what direction is that, genius? It’s north to somebody and I’m tellin’ you that’s the North star.”
Guy 3: “He’s gotta point, dude. It’s north to somebody and look how bright that thing is.”
Guy 2: “Whatever. Maybe it is.”
Guy 1: “Man, you’re stupid, dude.”

The best part: The house sits right next to mine and they both face almost perfectly north. These guys, like me, were on their back porch, facing their back yard and staring at the southern sky… in TEXAS!

I lied. Here’s the best part: When I finally figured out what they were talking about, I discovered it was moving… and ascending pretty quickly. It was a commercial jet that had just left DFW (which is about 30 miles or so from us) and still had it’s very bright landing/takeoff lights on. In their defense, it was pretty bright.

They’re all really good guys and college graduates, too.

One more “for the road”

This blog has been up for less than a month, but Google is a powerful force.

A Google search for “digitalcowboy” turns up a link to this blog in 9th place. Amazing to me, but not a problem. Kinda nice, really.

Googling “digitalcowboy worship” will currently give you exactly four links. Two are links to this blog, one is to a comment I posted on Slashdot years ago and had long forgotten. I can assure you, I have nothing to do with the fourth. Now I’m beginning to become disturbed at the power of Google.

Perhaps more disturbing is this search on “digitalcowboy sex”. Not only is the very first link to this blog, three of the top five are me (including another Slashdot post and a recent Haloscan comment over at Vox’s).

I don’t know if this is good or bad. It’s gonna take a while for me to digest this.

It’s ON

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

I was gonna do a new post tonight on something from my growing list of scriptural topics, but I couldn’t decide and now I’m too tired.

Later today (now) is the Daytona 500. I understand the importance of this race because of the history, but it’s not my favorite race or my favorite track. It is the first race of the season, though.

I just realized that I need to add “NASCAR” as a category. I’m gonna do that and then go to bed. The new Cup season officially begins in just under 8 hours.

For my theology-loving readers, don’t despair. You won’t find a more “Christian” sport in America than NASCAR. (Maybe that’s why it’s the most popular spectator sport in America.) If you don’t love it, maybe you should try. Many, many of the people involved are outspoken about following Christ.. In fact, MRO holds a quite well attended church service for the race teams in the infield of each track every Sunday morning before the race.

Hog on ice has it right

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

As a follow up to the beginning of my rant on feminism, I give you Hog on ice and his take on the whole deal. He said it much better than I ever could. An excerpt:

One of the many unbelievably stupid things feminism teaches us is that men are just pretending to be men. Gays are real. Lesbians are real. Straight women are real. Transsexuals are real. Men, however, are putting on a macho act. Deep down inside, they, too, want to sit around babbling about nothing and watching “The View.”

In addition, you single ladies might want to know that, unlike me, Steve’s apparently got it together, is available and never been married. He enjoys cooking and classical piano. He’s also a financially secure, retired (and reformed) lawyer that wants a wife and kids, as long as the kids are his. (I gleaned all this from reading his blog; I don’t know him.)

If I was a reasonably stable, childless, single female, I’d be hackin’ his door down with a logger’s ax. No, wait. That’s how I would approach it because I’m a man. I don’t know what I would do if I were a woman, just like most women don’t know what they’re doing now.

Don’t say I never gave ya anything.

Why I’m an anarcho-capitalist

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

Read this all slowly because I don’t have the energy right now to insert all the “emphasis” tags it requires.

So, I’m watching TV tonight and I hear that there’s a manhunt going on in Colorado for a guy that’s committed sexual assault 5 times in the last 6 days. He’s attacked everyone from grandmothers to young boys. They have mountains of DNA evidence and they know who they’re looking for, mainly because he was just released last July after serving about 14 years of a 15 year sentence for sexual assault. (He’s only 35, so that means he was convicted the first time at 20 and has spent pretty much his whole adult life in prison.)

I personally believe that rape is worse than murder. I’ll probably do a post on that soon. For now it will have to suffice for me to say that dead people don’t hurt other people and hurting people do. Sex crime is an infectious disease.

The kicker in tonight’s circus is that the police questioned this guy in November of last year on a charge that he sexually assaulted his girlfriend’s eight year old son. During the questioning, he admitted to police that he did it. They let him go because they wanted a “proper arrest” and it took them two months to get an arrest warrant processed through their bureaucratic bullshit. It was issued in late January.

His latest demonic binge began shortly after.

I was torn about whether to address this mess from the political or spiritual stand point first. I chose the political. I’ll incorporate the spiritual side into a post on rape that will also be a follow up to the “Worship is Sex…” post.

Government can’t do anything right. Protecting and serving are not even believable slogans for those feckless retards called “cops” anymore . They do neither.

(If you’re a “good” cop, congratulations and thank you. I’ve met a few. You’re the exception that proves the rule and, just like the small minority of caring and competent government school teachers, you’re fighting an uphill battle because the deck’s stacked against you. The system is designed to make you fail at doing your job “right.”)

When you finally unplug from the matrix and realize that government fails at everything, you’ll realize that the less we have, the better. It’s nothing more than a jobs program for the incompetent anyway.

I thank God that I don’t depend on them to protect my family. For that, I’ll count on God and Glock.
